U.Dance Midlands Regional 2024 applications now open

Applications are now open for U.Dance Midlands Regional platform 2024.

U.Dance is a national programme of events led by One Dance UK offering high-quality dance opportunities to young people. Each year, the nation’s young dancers can explore their creativity, learn more about dance careers, and experience the thrill of achievement from performing. 

One Dance UK welcomes and encourages applications from youth dance groups and soloists who create dance pieces across all genres. In the past they’ve had a mix of the street dance styles, jazz and theatre styles, ballet, South Asian dance, contemporary dance, the dance of the African Diaspora, and folk dance. No genre is excluded and they always welcome all genres of dance and young people from all walks of life.

They’re seeking applications that best reflect the commitment and creativity of your work. Dancers from various backgrounds and disciplines, aged 11 to 19 or up to and including 25 for dancers with disabilities. You can apply as: School and college groups; Youth dance companies; Private dance schools; or as an individual.

To be eligible for the U.Dance Regional platforms, groups/individuals must submit an application form and a video of their dance piece to your regional organiser before the application deadline (2 February 2024).

In order to apply, you must create a dance piece made for the stage – to be performed at your local U.Dance Regional Platform (Birmingham, Derby, Leicester, Lincoln, Northampton or Nottingham). Please ensure the dance piece is between 2 and 7 minutes long. Applicants must be based in and involve dancers from the Midlands only. There should be no more than 30 dancers in the piece.

When you submit a video of your finished dance piece, it is preferred that dancers are costumed and as closely related to the final work as possible. Dancers must be aged 11 to 19 years. Dancers with disabilities aged up to and including 25 (on or by 24 July 2023) may also apply. Please apply for the U.Dance Regional Platform nearest to where you or your group is based.

One Dance UK also host the U.Dance National Festival, which will take place in 2024 (date and location TBC). Groups and individuals who would like to be considered for this event need to specify on their application form that they would also like to be put forward for this additional opportunity.
