The Fonteyn 2025 candidate applications now open!

Candidate applications for The Margot Fonteyn International Ballet Competition are now open!

Hosted for the first time in Latin America, at the Auditório Ibirapuera in São Paulo, Brazil, The Margot Fonteyn International Ballet Competition is the Royal Academy of Dance’s flagship annual event. The competition is one of the most prestigious ballet competitions in the world, attracting the finest dancers trained in the RAD syllabus, from around the globe. Bursaries will be available from the RAD for applicants to apply for.

The Fonteyn is dedicated to promoting and rewarding standards of excellence in young ballet dancers internationally. This is achieved by offering candidates the unique opportunity to work with world-renowned choreographers and professionals, as well as the chance to perform on an international stage.

The Fonteyn week consists of coaching sessions, semi-finals and a final performance during which medals and awards are assigned by a panel of judges. As well as gaining the unique experience of participating in this world-renowned dance competition, prize money will be awarded to medallists. Medals are awarded to candidates showing the highest levels of competency in the stated criteria.

Candidate applications are open now through 19 May 2025. Bursary applications are open 24 March – 14 April 2025. The competition will take place 11 – 19 October 2025.

The competition is open to RAD members who have passed the RAD Advanced 2 exam with distinction or above. If you are not an RAD member, please visit their website to find out how to apply for a membership. Candidates must be at least 15 years old and under 19 years old by 19 May 2025.
