Registration for RIDCC 2024 is now open!
The Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition (RIDCC) is a platform for promising choreographers from the Netherlands and abroad. The annual competition offers talented dance makers the opportunity to showcase their work to an international audience, with a chance to win the prestigious XL Production Award worth 100,000 euros. Registration for the sixth edition – taking place on 20-22 June 2024 at Theater Rotterdam – is open now!
RIDCC’s main prize, the XL Production Award, is a unique and unprecedented award in the international dance world. Valued at 100,000 euros, the award enables the winning choreographer to create a complete professional production. It is made possible by Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, Stichting Droom en Daad and RIDCC.
Until Friday 1 March 2024, choreographers from all over the world can submit their choreography via ridcc.com. From the many registrations, the pre-jury will select 16 participants for the competition and announce them in April. The semi-finals will be on Thursday 20 and Friday 21 June and the grand finale will take place on Saturday 22 June.
The pre-jury representing various genres of dance and choosing the 16 participants for the competition consists of: Astrid Boons – performer and choreographer; Simon Bus – choreographer and performer; Polina Skarga – experimental battle dancer; Micaela Taylor – artistic director and founder of TL Collective, dancer, choreographer; and Mischa van Leeuwen – founder of RIDCC, former dancer with Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, choreographer.
For the sixth edition of RIDCC an internationally renowned jury has been appointed: Samuel Wuersten – general and artistic director of Holland Dance Festival; Joseph Toonga – visionary hip hop-inspired choreographer with the Royal Ballet, among others; Anouk van Dijk – choreographer, founder of Countertechnique; Ann Van Den Broek – choreographer and artistic leader of WArd/waRD; and Nita Liem – physical theatre-maker, performer and former artistic director of hip-hop dance/theatre company Don’t Hit Mama.
Selected choreographers not only get the chance to present their work to a wide international audience, but also become part of the exclusive RIDCC network. Within this network, they can share knowledge and collaborate with like-minded professionals from the dance world. In addition, RIDCC offers an in-depth programme consisting of workshops, master classes, network meetings and coaching sessions. This will give choreographers valuable tools to shape their independent practice as creators more strongly. The winner of the main prize will have the unique opportunity to create a new, autonomous production at Scapino Ballet Rotterdam with a guarantee of a tour through the Netherlands. In addition, all of the participants will have the chance to win a Partner Award.
RIDCC’s partners highlight the collective importance of talent development and each contribute in their own way. From the sixteen selected participants, the partners choose a choreographer to receive their Partner Award. This award serves as a stimulus for new work and thus supports the choreographers’ creative process.
