New Movement Collective present Les Noces – The Departure at Woolwich Works

One hundred years after Stravinsky and Nijinska created the powerful masterpiece Les Noces, New Movement Collective presents a reimagining of the iconic ballet at Woolwich Works on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 January 2024.

A deeply emotive exploration of what is at the core of human relationships and commitment, Les Noces is performed in Stravinsky’s audacious choice for pianos and percussions. This new choreographic creation features over 50 dancers, musicians, and singers from New Movement Collective, the Royal Academy of Music, and Opera Holland Park Chorus, with music direction from Yshani Perinpanayagam and costume design by April Dalton.

To accompany the evening’s programme, New Movement Collective has commissioned three composers and songwriters to respond to Stravinsky’s score: the project’s music director Perinpanayagam, emerging Royal Academy of Music composer Andrea Balency-Béarn, and Beatbox Champion MC Zani.

These new compositions will see choreographic explorations on the work’s themes performed by English National Ballet’s ENBYouthCo and Manchester based Company Chameleon’s Chameleon Youth.

New Movement Collective is a group of dance artists who come together to redefine the boundaries of choreography through ambitious, cross-disciplinary work. Les Noces – The Departure continues their exploration into the relationship between performer, participant and spectator in a multi-layered marriage of dance and music.

Les Noces – The Departure will be at Woolwich Works, Sat 13 & Sun 14 January 2024. Performances are at 2:30 pm & 7:30 pm. Tickets are £26.50 (conc. £20). Visit www.woolwich.works/events/les-noces for more information.
