Comedy flamenco show – ‘Flamenc Oh!!’ – comes to the Peacock Theatre this autumn

The company behind acclaimed comedy musical The Opera Locos will return to the Peacock Theatre, Sadler’s Wells’ home in the West End, this autumn with their latest show Flamenc Oh!!– combining world-class flamenco dancing and live music with comedy and physical theatre from Wednesday 30 September to Saturday 10 October.

The production, co-commissioned by Spanish dance theatre company Yllana and Sadler’s Wells, is a comedic show about love, passion and revenge that follows a family of flamenco artists while they’re on tour. 

Their family is helmed by a fiercely traditional patriarch whose world unravels when his children begin to challenge the old rules and, in order to attract new audiences, experiment by fusing flamenco with other modern music and dance styles. As audiences will discover however, beneath their father’s determined defence of tradition he hides a deep secret. 

The show lovingly sends up the flamenco tradition and includes a unique blend of many dance styles and musical genres, featuring live music and singing across traditional flamenco, rock, pop, hip-hop, and country.

Yllana’s founder and artistic director David Ottone said their team was “really excited” to be bringing Flamenc Oh!! to London. 

“We’ve played in the UK many times over the years, and audiences here have always been very open to Yllana’s sense of humour, which means a lot to us,” Ottone said. “For me, Flamenc Oh!! is a celebration of flamenco and its incredible capacity to adapt and evolve. That’s exactly what the show plays with: a very traditional flamenco family suddenly confronted with new ideas, new music and a lot of chaos. I hope people come, laugh a lot, enjoy the music, and maybe leave with a different idea of what flamenco can be.”

Sadler’s Wells’ head of programming for the Peacock Theatre, David Fry, said: “We co-commissioned this fabulous production as part of our 30th anniversary season as it perfectly captures our core mission at the Peacock – to reach a broad audience with playful work that delights, surprises and inspires.”

Flamenc Oh!! will perform a season at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe, playing the Assembly Rooms from 6 – 30 August before coming to London. The London run of the production is at the Peacock Theatre in Holborn from Wednesday 30 September to Saturday 10 October.
