Chichester Festival Theatre Announces Stellar Cast for Irving Berlin’s ‘Top Hat’

Following the resounding success of The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry and the West End triumph of last year’s Oliver!, Chichester Festival Theatre is thrilled to unveil the stellar cast for its upcoming musical spectacular, Irving Berlin’s Top Hat, set to dazzle audiences this July. This effervescent production promises a heady blend of romance, wit, and unforgettable dance, directed and choreographed by the multi-award-winning Kathleen Marshall, whose Tony and Olivier accolades for Anything Goes ensure a show that will leave you tapping your feet all the way home.

Leading the ensemble is Broadway sensation Phillip Attmore, a Fred and Adele Astaire Award winner for Best Male Dancer, making his UK debut as the charismatic Jerry Travers. Joining him is Lucy St. Louis, a trailblazing talent who made history as the first Black actress to play Glinda in Wicked and Christine in The Phantom of the Opera in the West End, now gracing Chichester for the first time as the elegant Dale Tremont. The cast is further elevated by Clive Carter, a three-time Olivier Award nominee (Moulin Rouge, Come From Away, Into the Woods), debuting at Chichester as the hapless Horace. Returning to the theatre after her standout performance in A Damsel in Distress, Sally Ann Triplett, with credits including Anything Goes and Cabaret, takes on the role of the formidable Madge.

Top Hat is a sparkling concoction of Irving Berlin’s timeless score, featuring classics like “Cheek to Cheek,” “Let’s Face the Music and Dance,” and “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” paired with lavish sets, exquisite costumes, and breathtaking choreography. The story follows Broadway star Jerry Travers, who arrives in London and falls for model Dale Tremont after his tap dancing disrupts her sleep. Mistaken identities, romantic entanglements, and a fiery Italian admirer add delicious chaos to this romantic comedy.

Catch Top Hat at Chichester Festival Theatre from 14 July to 6 September. Tickets start at £10 and are available now at https://www.cft.org.uk/events/top-hat.
